SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE
Shakespeare’s summer comedy on the Elizabethan stage
The beautiful Viola de Lesseps, the daughter of a rich merchant and the fiancée of Lord Wessex, has to make a choice: to fulfil her dream of becoming an actress and to follow her heart or submit to her father’s will.
William Shakespeare, a young and ambitious playwright and actor, promises to write a new play for the director of the Rose Theatre but he is suffering from writer’s block. His inspiration comes from his love for Viola but this means he has to make an impossible choice – his beloved theatre or the woman he loves? Risk and sacrifice are written into the tragic fate of the protagonists in this play – just as in Shakespeare. But even in this sad story there are still occasions for laughter.
We invite you to a great comedy with lively action, numerous daring duels and dynamic role changes. Here you will find love, struggle with destiny, the stormy fates of lovers and conflicts between theatres – and all of this set in the climate of the Elizabethan age on a reconstructed stage!
Shakespeare in Love, presented on the stage of the Shakespeare Theatre, is a dashing show in the Elizabethan style, with a large dose of humour, youthful energy and dynamism. With its energy it refers to The Merry Wives of Windsor
Paweł Aigner, the director of this show.
